OZEN By Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island: An all-inclusive resort in Maldives like no other

One of the most exciting aspects of visiting the Maldives is watching all the islands and clear blue waters as you fly into Male Island International airport. Make sure you have a window seat, the pictures you will take will no doubt be your screensaver for years to come. As you get through customs and collect your bags, you make your way to a zone of a couple of dozen stalls and signage of resorts so guests can check themselves in. Upon landing, the Ozen team is waiting for you as you walk out of the airport and straight into your speed boat.

You will pass by other islands and their respective resorts so you get a feel about where every other island property is. It is a fairly calm ride so even those who get seasick will not have to worry too much about this transport. The Ozen boat has wifi, snacks and refreshments to entertain you for the 45 minutes ride.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the whole Ozen team throwing petals and playing music as we jumped off the boat on to the jetty. A very typical Maldivian welcome, the management team were there ready to greet us with smiles and handshakes. As we were walking into reception handing over passports, we were gifted fruit shots and several glasses of cold champagne to get us relaxed for our 3 days of paradise.

Our favourite welcome and one of which we never have had in the other 6 resorts we have visited, we got welcome complimentary foot massages to get us in a relaxed but cheerful mood! So, of course, we obliged with this. A massage just for getting to the reception! We were definitely going to enjoy this place. While we were in comatose heaven, they came around with strawberries and cream. Talk about absolute indulgence, we knew we were in for a treat while we were here.

Rooms at OZEN By Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island

Our room was a special beach facing property with its very own plunge pool. The room itself was spacious and well designed, with a large king bed as the centrepiece. The mini bar was free as part of the all-inclusive package, so you could take and drink anything you wanted from the bar, oh yeah, plus many bottles of wine as well! The bathroom was another great feature with an outdoor shower in the surrounding garden. Our beachfront was super accessible and a great way to get to the reception with a stroll along the water. Note that if you want overwater villas, book way in advance as they go away very quickly.

We also had the opportunity to visit the presidential villa which had several large bedrooms, a huge living room area, a large deck and several relaxation zones. This has a price tag only a very few can afford, but if it is in your price range, then you will be in for a treat. Dining at OZEN By Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island

There were a few memorable dining experiences here that we will remember for a long time.

M6M is the underwater dining experience and is the must-do on the island. M6M, meaning minus 6 meters below the water. Yes, that’s right, you are under the water! It is a fine dining experience so you will have to dress nicely. Try to enjoy the experience more than taking pictures considering the lighting down there isn’t great anyway so enjoy the experience to the fullest without the camera in hand.

Your food experience is like this: You have a choice of two 5 course meals of seafood on the menu. It comes out with two starters, soup, mains and a dessert. It lasts for about 2.5 hours and it is worth every single bit. Make sure you try one of the signature cocktails, we had the creme brûlée cocktail which was a great decision! You also have a wine pairing with every meal so you can enjoy different wines around the world. During your sit downtime, they are feeding the fish so that they are flying around in a frenzy for you to enjoy. If you are in luck, you may even get to see a ray or baby shark! This experience can be done once part of your all-inclusive experience at OZEN.

The Traditions Peking is a traditional Chinese style restaurant overhanging the water that was an exceptional spot to have dinner. From the menu, you can choose from starters, soups, mains, desserts and a host of cocktails and drinks. Make sure you book early, as spots fill up fast.

Facilities at OZEN By Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island

There are so many things to do at Ozen that we were kept busy the entire time we were there. They have many of the standard facilities that you would expect from a luxury property such as a tennis court, diving facilities, free snorkelling equipment for hire, several swimming areas, a fitness centre with a personal trainer, yoga classes, a library, games room and non-motorized sports such as windsurfing, etc.

A unique feature of the property was the Ice Cream Hut. It is a little shop you can ride to that distributes ice cream, perfect for the hot days of the Maldives.

Our Dolphin watching experience

Several evenings a week, Ozen has a Sunset cruise and a Dolphin cruise. The dolphin cruise takes you out past the reef and goes where the dolphins are at play. We were on the boat less than 20 minutes and we were literally playing with a dozen dolphins as they showed off to us a few jumps and twists around the boat. The dolphins were enjoying it as much as we were! You will have to book one of these experiences to make sure your spot is guaranteed as it is a crowd favourite. This excursion is also part of the resort activities included in your all-inclusive package.

The Submarine ride

If you are looking for something more unique, then you can go in the properties glass-bottom half submarine. In this hour-long adventure, they will take you out to the reef where you can enjoy the reef experience seeing all the animals, without touching the water. It is a unique experience and a great way to see several species of fish, rays and maybe even a shark or two! The trip is not complimentary, so ask your butler to arrange it for you.

Our experience at OZEN By Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island

In regards to value for money, it is quite expensive for a regular room when compared to some other resorts in the surrounded area. However, the package here is all-inclusive which gives you access to virtually anything and everything on the island, creating great value for the guest in that regard. The service is absolutely first class and very personalized.

There is no direct reef here, so if you are a diving enthusiast there may be better properties, but they have spots that are 10-15 minutes away that are superb for diving and snorkelling. We even saw several dolphins on the reef and a plethora of fish and sea life.

If you stay longer than four days, you then have free spa or dive sessions so it is worth your while to stay a little longer here. We recommend that you stay between 3-5 days here to enjoy every aspect of the property and get enough relaxation time in. We have met a few honeymooners and they were absolutely in love with the idea of a Maldivian vacation without thinking of an extra bill considering they are paying for an all-inclusive treatment. We totally could understand the great feeling of it!
